Wolf in Europa ook beschermd in bewoond gebied

LUXEMBURG (ANP/BELGA) Een wolf is in de EU ook beschermd buiten zijn natuurlijke leefomgeving. Als het dier terechtkomt in een gebied waar mensen wonen, mag hij niet zonder expliciete toestemming van de nationale bevoegde instantie worden gevangen of verplaatst, oordeelt het Europees Hof van Justitie. De Europese habitatrichtlijn geldt overal.
Een rechtbank in Roemenië had het hof om nadere uitleg over de richtlijn gevraagd. Vier jaar geleden vingen medewerkers van een vereniging voor dierenbescherming en een dierenarts een wolf in een Roemeens dorp. Ze wilden het dier overbrengen naar een natuurreservaat, maar het ontsnapte. Daarop werd een zaak tegen hen aangespannen.
