Duda aan kop na eerste ronde verkiezing Polen

WARSCHAU (ANP/AFP/DPA) De president van Polen Andrzej Duda gaat ruim aan kop na de presidentsverkiezingen in zijn land. Hij moet het komende maand in een tweede verkiezingsronde vermoedelijk opnemen tegen oppositiekandidaat Rafal Trzaskowski.
Duda kreeg volgens een tussentijdse uitslag zo'n 43 procent van de stemmen. Daarna volgde Trzaskowski, de burgemeester van Warschau, met ongeveer 30 procent. De conservatief Duda wordt gesteund door de regerende PiS-partij en zijn voornaamste rivaal Trzaskowski vertegenwoordigt oppositiepartij Burgerplatform.
De verkiezing had eigenlijk in mei gehouden moeten worden, maar is uitgesteld vanwege de coronacrisis. De volledige uitslag kan langer dan gebruikelijk op zich laten wachten omdat als veiligheidsmaatregel ook op grote schaal per post gestemd mocht worden.
